The official opening will be 6:30 - 8:30pm, Wednesday 31st July.

I have one piece entered, titled "Reconciliation", shown below as a work in progress.
]]><![CDATA["Illusion of Certainty" installed at Yinnar]]>Fri, 05 Apr 2019 02:24:39 GMThttp://www.johnbishopsculpture.com.au/news/illusion-of-certainty-installed-at-yinnar"Illusion of Certainty" has been bolted to the footpath near the hardware store in the main street of Yinnar.  "Counterpoint" is in the gallery at ARC.  The Gippsland Sculpture Exhibition opening is April 6th and there are lots of great artists taking part so it will be worth the drive.

You can get a map showing the locations of all the works from any of the shops in Toorak Village.  "Waveform" will be in the window of Studio MG, 453 Toorak Road.

MIFGS runs from Wed 27th March to Sun 31st March in the Carlton Gardens and the sculpture exhibition is near the fountain.

]]><![CDATA[Gippsland Sculpture Exhibition]]>Fri, 08 Mar 2019 03:00:09 GMThttp://www.johnbishopsculpture.com.au/news/gippsland-sculpture-exhibitionMy sculptures "Illusion of Certainty" and "Counterpoint" have been selected as finalists in the 2019 Gippsland Sculpture Exhibition.
The exhibition is in Main Street, Yinnar from 6th April to 1st June.  Yinnar is around 10km south of the Princes Freeway near Morwell.  It is a bit of a drive from Melbourne, but there will be 50 sculptures by many talented artists on display, so it will be well worth it.

]]><![CDATA["Synergy" wins Tesselaar Sculpture Prize!]]>Sun, 16 Sep 2018 00:27:28 GMThttp://www.johnbishopsculpture.com.au/news/synergy-wins-tesselaar-sculpture-prizeThe Tesselaar Tulip Festival opened yesterday, 15th September, and includes the Tesselaar Sculpture Prize, with works by 25 finalists.  I was surprised during the week to receive a call from Mark Cowie, the exhibition curator, telling me I had won the $20,000 Tesselaar Sculpture Prize!  This is an acquisitive prize, so "Synergy" will become part of the sculpture collection at the Tesselaar Flower Farm.

Here are the comments by the judge, Michael Meszaros OAM:
"John’s work has an apparent simplicity which disguises a subtlety of form and meaning.  The title gives a clue to this subtlety.  As I walked around it the forms played with each other as the viewing angle changed.  These forms are elegant and feminine with a gradual development of complexity as they move upwards.  They have a calculated dislocation which uses the light as it plays across the surface and as the day progresses.  The work retains the suggestion of its original block of stone, utilising it while transforming it to another level of meaning.  The work is fully three dimensional, encouraging one to walk around it and to notice the shifting counterpoint of the carefully composed forms.  Finally, it is beautifully crafted, utilising the potential of the material, its texture and its colour".
