Last night was the opening of the ASV Annual and Awards Exhibition. I was lucky enough to win the "CMP Stonemason Supplies" Prize!
The judge, Chris Deutscher, made some very positive comments: "Each of this artist’s works (nos. 3,4,5) are carefully considered and perfectly formed, akin to nature. The carving is refined and almost secondary to the shapes that so comfortably evolve. Geometric shapes and clusters of cells thrive in this natural world enhanced by the simple soft limestone medium." I have been selected as a finalist in the Tesselaar Sculpture Prize, part of the Tesselaar Tulip Festival held between 15 September and 14 October. My sculpture is not quite finished, but here is a sneak peak - just part of it, the complete piece is 1.5m tall.
I have three works in the ASV Annual and Awards Exhibition.
I will have a stall at the next Heide Maker's Market, on 8 September at the Heide Museum of Modern Art Sculpture Park. More details at the website.
The next limestone sculpture workshop is scheduled for 22nd July at the Clay Room, Camberwell Community Centre, 33 Fairholm Grove, Camberwell. Details on the Workshops page.

I am currently finishing new works for my stall at the upcoming Heide Maker's Market. (see work in progress photos below.)
The market is in the sculpture park at Heide Museum of Modern Art, 7 Templestowe Road, Bulleen. It is on Saturday 12 May from 10:00am to 3:00pm but I recommend arriving early as there is normally quite a crowd. The Heide Maker's Market has "an eclectic mix of art, design, hand crafted goods and tasty treats", all made by the stall holders. www.heidemarket.com/ While you are there, you can have a look at the wonderful collection of more than 35 sculptures in the Heide Sculpture Park. There is no charge to visit the sculpture park. www.heide.com.au/collection/sculpture-park-and-plaza You can also visit the galleries for an entry fee of $18 per adult. www.heide.com.au/whats-on/exhibitions/now-showing My piece "Odette" is in the Toorak Village Sculpture Exhibition which is on until 10 June 2018.
There are 97 sculptures on display in shop windows and on the pavement in the Toorak Village (on Toorak Road, between Grange Road and Tintern Av East) so it is well worth a visit. It is free to look at the sculptures and you can get a catalogue and map from one of the participating shops. "Odette" is in the window of Aveo Toorak, 28-30, Jackson Street, Toorak. She looks better in person than in the photo as the reflections are not so obvious when you are there. This piece was created simply as a curvy, abstract form, but my wife pointed out that it suggests a swan from certain angles so I gave it the title "Odette" after the White Swan from the ballet Swan Lake. Just before MIFGS I delivered new works to Stony Creek Gallery in Daylesford, including "Connections" which you can see in Process under the Galleries menu. I also took a few smaller pieces. They are in the new section of the sculpture garden at Stony Creek.
